Foothills CrossFit is sad to announce that it will be closing on Thursday, June 16th. Words cannot adequately express how thankful we are to have had such a dedicated and passionate community of athletes for the past 2 years. We wish you the best as you continue to immerse yourself in CrossFit and am honored that you chose us to be a part of your life.

Lori successfully deadlifts #120. Her previous deadlift 3 3 3 3 3 was #85
Trish setting up to deadlift 185#, she nailed it as well.
Tony started CrossFit in January. He has lost 19 lbs and 6% bodyfat so far, primarily following the Paleo diet (well, also by working his _ _ _ off).
Red is back from Iraq! So happy to have you back Red! She did the Basics Class and then shipped off soon afterward. She did CrossFit religiously over there, came back and we hardly recognized her. She has lost 3 lbs, 4% bodyfat, lost 2" around her hips and gained 5 lbs of muscle in 3 mos. Her metabolic age has gone from 40 to 30. Geez
And then we have crazy Gianna, gracefully coming down after practicing handstand pushups.

Tuesday, July 28

"Pick Your Poison" Sandi chose pullups. She blew us all away by cranking through 24 rounds and completing 290 of them.
Mike chose pushups and wished he hadn't.
Tony chose kettlebell swings; 53# kettlebell. It's ALMOST as big as he is.

Lots of accomplishments today so here we go: Mike started doing CrossFit in December and has lost 25 lbs so far. He had not run in 8 years. He went out and bought himself a new pair of running shoes this weekend, came in today and announced he was off to run his first 5K. He did it in 38:39. Wow. Just like that.
John jumped a 41" box. Now we all have to up our game to reach his new height.
The first time Lori did "The Bear" was in April. She ended her 5th round with a weight of 39#. Today she ended her 5th round with 50#. Then she went on to do 1 rep at 60#, 1 at 65# and 1 at 70#. Congratulations Lori!!
Bess is new to Foothills CrossFit and ended "The Bear" with 55#.
So ends another day doing what makes us better people: CrossFit. What did your fitness program do for you today?
Even when you think you're putting out the worse performance ever in a workout, you could be inspiring someone else and not even know it. Quitting is like a virus, when one person does it everyone sees how easy it is too. But perserverance can be viral too, so never stop. ~Eva B.

Check this out:

Brandon shows up for his first Basics class and jumps 41" for his baseline box jump height. Who new? He certainly didn't. Now we are all scrambling to beat his baseline. Welcome Brandon!

Then Tony shows some amazing focus and form during his 135# clean and jerks on "Grace".

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 5K run around the lake at Thomlinson Park today! For some of you it was your first time to run that distance. The run was made more difficult mentally due to the fact that you had to run around the lake 7 times to complete the required distance. Amanda 30:16 Bess 30:03 Lori 44:23 Glenn 29:43 Matt 35:05 Murff 22:26
This is Bess after her first Basics class. Welcome to Foothills CrossFit Bess!

We have not posted in a couple of days, so here it is! Videos and more videos. We have not been slacking off, that is for sure.

Thanks to the 12 people who came to Parfet Park for the free WOD on Saturday. Even the kids joined in the fun. Elly learning burpees from her Dad.

Cindy and Melissa playing with the new addition to Foothills CrossFit.

Glenn's first time practicing the snatch. Pretty impressive as far as we are concerned, although Glenn seems to be our new resident Firebreather after being exposed to CrossFit for only 2 months. We never saw it coming, but then, neither did he!

Tony jumping a 37" box. He now has the height to beat. Come on Danielle!

Tony and Lori playing with the new addition to Foothills CrossFit. Lori got out before Tony decided to flip the tire with her in it!
Tony dropping down low on his snatches. Great form Tony.

Who works out on vacation?? CrossFitter's that 's who! Danni and John asked for a few WOD's they could do while away at the beach. John of course is finding a few things to jump on and they've got Danni's brother CrossFitting as well. They tell me burpees in the sand suck. Who would have thought???

Perfect "box jumps"! Jump John! Burpees suck in the sand...

Red joined Foothills CrossFit and was soon shipped off to Iraq. She has been CrossFitting while there and will be returning to Foothills soon. Here are some pics from the 4th of July. Picture of one of our F-16's in the HAS (hardened area shelter).
The next pictures are looking directly at the same HAS from about 150 feet, and again from about 350 feet. Our pilots were out and about checking out the lovely cloak of darkness. I think I actually prefer the storms. It's almost like Colorado - really hot without relief, then the storm comes in and we get some reprieve to about 100 degrees. The sandy days feel like a cool summer breeze in comparison to the Hell degrees hot that feels like you're sitting in an oven.

When days are like this, we don't fly. No one flies. Nothing and no one in or out of the immediate area, including patients. Of course if there is an emergency of any sort, we will make the magic happen. We've been pretty lucky with a lack of emergencies...so no flying. We're out of some simple things like fresh fruits and veggies. No lettuce, tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, honeydew - but we are still being very well taken care of. Kerchiefs and eye protection are abundant to protect our eyes and lungs. We typically have a ton of respiratory complaints coming into the clinic and the ER following dust storms like this one. It's lasted for 3 days so far, and looks like we'll have a few more days of it. Today is the most severe by far.

The time is winding down and I'll be heading home soon.

It is bitter-sweet, as I feel that there is still something for me to do here, yet I miss home as well. I have made some incredible friends, pushed myself in ways I never thought possible, and have learned a great deal (even under some very stressful working conditions). I'm reminded daily of the importance of the 'little things' in life and how important it is to make every day count. In my line of work, that philosophy is always on the forefront of my thoughts, here is is even more potent.
Thanks Red for everything you all are doing to keep us safe!

Saturday, July 4
